HistoryThe Goldsboro Builders Supply family of companies began in 1947 when two brothers, Arthur Lee and Leon Perry, founded Perry Lumber Company in Selma, NC. In 1953, Arthur Lee came to Goldsboro to open a retail buildeing supply store, “Goldsboro Builders Supply.”
Mr. C.L. Lynn was part owner and managed the store until he died in 1963. At that time Arthur Lee moved to Goldsboro to handle the day-to-day operations. In 1963, Arthur Lee also opened the first “GBS” affiliate “Perry Concrete.”
Another brother then came to Goldsboro to run the concrete company until it was sold in 1980. In 1979, Arthur Lee opened the first building supply affiliate of Goldsboro Builders Supply in Mt. Olive, NC, “Number One Builders Supply.” In 1981, Builders Bargain Center of Goldsboro was founded. David Perry joined the company full time in 1982. Number One Builders Supply began as a 15,000 sq.ft. warehouse, retail only “cash & carry” with 3 employees. In 1984, David Perry purchased 50% interest in the business. The company migrated to a retail store concentrating on the Mt. Olive retail trade, home builders and the agricultural trade. In 1988, more than 50% of the stores sales came from home building and agricultural. In 1990, David Perry purchased all of the stock in Number One Builders Supply making the store today a full line building material retailer servicing Wayne, Duplin, Sampson, and Lenoir counties. Number One Builders Supply now hosts 8 acres with a 6,000 sq.ft. showroom, 70,000 sq.ft. of warehouses and sheds and has a complete fleet of delivery vehicles including boom trucks and jobsite forklift capable trucks. Today, the store has 130 years of management and sales experience, celebrating its 28th year of operation. |
